We are excited to begin our 6th year with the strength of 2 core teachers, Peggy Jones and Michelle Medley, and the inspiring support of 3 teaching assistants - Maegen Gabrielle, Vanessa Allen, and Coraleen Rawls. This is a landmark moment; for years it was just me. This trained and capable team helps us expand and embellish what we always hope to offer- deep learning experiences of a practical and direct nature in the vast field herbal study and practice.
This development has given me the opportunity to be more available for various consultancy services beyond the area of individual health care. I am enjoying consulting with companies for product development using the properties of herbs. This includes topical, edible, and home care products of all kinds.
I developed my first herbal product when I was 17, by infusing oils with rosemary, sage, and thyme, and then adding fresh aloe gel (that I ordered from a bee farm in Texas- they came as huge fresh aloe leaves in a box back then.... I doubt that would be available now!) and goldenseal to make a body oil. I didn't quite know what I was doing, but people said it healed their skin, protected from sunburn, and even inspired one woman to quit drugs. Now 30 years later I do know "what I am doing", and it is wonderful to have a role in adding herbs to product creation while also increasing opportunities for small farmers to grow herbs on their land - the herbs having increasing value now.
So- direct individual health care is not the only avenue for herb work- herbs are therapeutic and they are "medicine" for the entire earth, the entire culture. We are going to be seeing more and more a demand for a toxin-free livestyle, and herbs fill the product development niche. We need an army of educated and inspired herbalists to help that happen- so join us in learning!
