Along with the teachers listed below, this coming year (2008) Gaia School of Herbal Studies welcomes new teaching assistants from previous certification programs, who are capable of deepening students learning experiences in the areas of Field ID, Medicine Making, Harvest, and Medicinal Herb Cultivation .  We look forward to introducing them to you in Spring, 2008.

Mary Light :  Mary has embraced and studied herbs, wild plants, gardening, flower essences, cooking, and medicine making since 1978.  Locally, she has taught at Gaia Center, through the Ann Arbor Public Schools' Community Education program, and regularly at Washtenaw Community College.  She is professionally trained as a traditional naturopath, master herbalist, chef,  massage therapist, and practitioner of various energy healing methods including Polarity, Therapeutic Touch, Hands of Light healing science, Reiki, and influences from various teacher's programs including Carolyn Myss, Tom Cratsley, and Ethel Lombardi.

Her work as a teacher , and as a healer in private practice (see www.marylightnaturalmedicine.com) is therefore an integration of all of the above , as applied to herbal studies and botanical healing.   She founded Gaia Center in 1995, and has also taught in numerous settings : school systems, universities, government agencies, massage schools, and expositions.  She is a member of United Plant Savers organization, American Holistic Health Association, Michigan Herb Association, and a provider of continuing education through National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork.   Outside of Gaia school, you may look for her herb and natural health classes at Washtenaw Community College in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Rowena Conahan:  Rowena brings extensive wilderness skills training and experience to her Wild Edibles walks and lectures, which are featured at Gaia school twice each season.  this past year (2007), she created the structure, by refining trails and curriculum, for a nature skills and nature awareness  program for children.   A Graduate of Vassar, Rowena is a former Montessori teacher.  She is a certified massage therapist and intuitive healer  with a private practice, and also a community herbalist, mother of two, home schooled  small children, community storyteller, and cohousing member.  Rowena has proposed a new and interesting class, "Cooking With the Devas" , designed to focus on intuitive approaches for tapping into ones' own wisdom when preparing meals to nourish self, family, and friends.

We welcome Keith Ceni, licensed Acupuncturist and owner
